The Tasiilaq Museum Association held its first general meeting on 18 November 1981. In August 1990, the museum had its opening exhibition in the old church from 1908 which houses the Ammassalik Museum. In addition to the church, the museum consists of a chapel, a photo museum, a potato house and a peat house. The museum’s main building is listed. The museum has a significant collection of items that shows the cultural heritage of East Greenland.
